I have to say this was interesting even though i liked SC2, and only played the single player, and mulitplayer is limited to my family and close friend circle.. but the behavior of the company itself is very questionable. I understand that a business has to make money to be a business, so I've never held it against blizzard, not to much, any way. Your article was pretty eye opening and for some reason I want to blame Activision, sense Blizzard and Activision were not 'together' till about 2008 when vivendi (who now owns both) bought blizzard. Either way, it's all going rather downhill.

Catacylsm is shit by the way. ( Recent Wow Expansion.). It doesn't make me confident for any future games from Blizzard. the Higher ups and potentially the marketing people are fucking things up and need to get their paws the hell out of things They don't need to be cocking with.

Acti-Blizzard still hasn't gotten its shit together, and Battle.net 2.0 is still just about as bad as this article details. I've seen maps that, months ago, were fairly popular, become *BLIZZARD* maps, obviously taken over, and I'm glad that I didn't resume mapmaking in Starcraft 2.

At least it has chat channels!!!11

I have bought this game online without knowing for the region locking stuff. So what was possible with the old battle net has become impossible... I cannot actually play with my friends anymore (online AND lan) or i must buy another copy of SC2... This is a total crap!!

Pretty brilliant article, I'd sooner be caught dead than forking over money to these shitheads for this insult of a product. Really sad Blizzard is now run by these greedy and inept shells of subhuman waste, WC3 along with its mod maps was probably my favorite game of all time.

Luckily enough I'm patient and I'll wait 10 years for them to crack it if it takes, I only buy the games I really like anyway. Intellectual property can suck my dick, they have too many ways to fuck you over, if they have a right to every copy than I have a right to a quality product and freedom to do what I like with it.

I am not a fan of anything from Blizzard, but I read all of this. If anything, it gave me something else to add to my list of reasons to hate Activision. They are about to overshadow EA.

I disagree with with Oliver Park.
It's obvious that the article writer knows the history. No-lan, separated regions, online authentication, map publishing system and so on are not "stupid little things" that will be fixed whenever they got time for it - they're big business decicions that completely changes the way they customer/developer relationship work. I, the paying customer, now only rent the game, and Activision-Blizzard decides when, where, how, and under what curcumstances i'm allowed to play.

I disagree with >90% of this rant. It's obvious that the writer is completely ignorant of the evolution of Starcraft I over the past 10+ years. Starcraft I has drastically changed over the years. Every single year, from 2002, to 2003, to 2004, and so on, has seen a WORLD OF CHANGE in how Starcraft was played by pros and amateurs alike. It is unbelievable how deep and broad this game is... that even after 10 years after it's release... that the strategy and understanding behind the game continues to grow and grow.

All these petty and minor issues mentioned by the author have nothing to do with the eventual success or failure of Starcraft 2 becoming a true successor to the RTS throne that, TO THIS DAY, is still occupied by Starcraft I. You can add stupid little things like tournament support, LAN, and chatrooms (more like spamrooms) to BNET anytime.... but you can't change the fundamentals of the game if they're already screwed up from the beginning. And that is precisely where we are right now... It's only the beginning of a long and beautiful journey for Starcraft 2.

If you don't like what they've done with BattleNet.. vote with your feet and buy someone elses games :)

I have to concede this is a seriously kickass rant though

I don't have internet at home and I live in South Africa where broadband is expensive. Thank Blizzard for making a wonderful useless game.
